Steal my New Year Reflection Practice

It's 2026 ✨

After a restful Christmas and New Years break, it’s the first Monday of a new year. And I almost feel like today is the actual start to the new year.

I’m all about setting intentions for the new year. And I've spent some time reflecting on this the last few days.

This inspired me to share the question I think is most important and impactful to ask yourself at the beginning of a new year. And how you might use these reflections to set intentions for 2026.

This is a time when New Year’s resolutions are pushed on us from every angle. And honestly, I don’t love that. Resolutions can feel rigid, overwhelming, and, let’s be real, often short-lived.

Instead, I like to focus on intentions. Gentle, meaningful ways to guide how I spend my time and energy. How I want to show up for myself and others.

While resolutions often are like rules, intentions are more like guiding compasses.

My absolute favorite question to start the new year is: What do I want more of this year?

I invite you to reflect on this. What do you want more of in your life in 2026? And how will you create space for it?

Here are a few more questions to help your reflection:

  • What do you want to spend more time doing?

  • Who do you want to spend more time with? Which relationships do you wish to nurture?

  • What feelings do you want to experience more of? Maybe it's joy, love, connection, or something else?

  • What activities bring you those positive feelings? And how can you do more of them?

Once you know what you want more of, the next step is to be intentional with your time. How can your weekly schedule reflect your intentions? What small adjustments can you make to prioritize what matters most to you?

And maybe there's one word or a short statement that embodies what you want more of this year. And you can pick that as your "word for 2026”, something to come back to again and again. It can help you make intentional decisions.

For example: the word I picked for 2026 is "simplicity". I have a tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be. And sometimes, I create extra, necessary work for myself. With our baby boy arriving in just 7ish weeks, I think making things more simple is exactly what I need. So when making decisions, I'll ask myself “how can I let this be simple and easy for myself?"

What do you think? I'd love to hear about what you want more of in the new year and which word you picked! If you want to share your intentions for 2026 with me, you’re more than welcome to DM me on Instagram.
