Energize your Daily Life: Let's shake things up!
Seven years ago, I completed my first yoga teacher training and taught my very first class. I was living in New York at the time and took my traning at my local studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
I remember feeling slighlty terrified to start teaching. But also excited to share the practice that had grounded me for years.
Fast forward to last week, and I decided to try something completely new to me: circular sequencing. It's a way of teaching where you face all directions of the room as you move through the flow.
After seven years of planning my classes a certain way, it was energizing to sit down with a pen and post-it notes to map out the sequence carefully, like I did in the early days of teaching.
It felt like a reset. A small shake-up. A beginner’s mind moment.
It reminded me that even tiny changes can breathe life into the familiar.
Most of our days are everyday days. And most of our lives are made up of the familiar. The same routes, meals, playlists, movement patterns. Which isn’t a bad thing. Routines help us feel grounded. But sometimes, a little shift can spark something new.
So here’s a gentle invitation for you: Try doing one thing differently this week! It doesn't have to be a full-on life overhaul. Just a small change.
Here are a few ideas:
Cook a dish you’ve never tried before
Take a movement class in a style that’s new to you
Walk in a different neighborhood than usual
Rearrange the furniture in one corner of your home
Start your morning with music instead of a screen
Write a note (yes, on paper) to someone you care about
Let it be playful. Let it be simple. And let it surprise you.
