What if Rest Came First?
I’m writing this from the final stretch of pregnancy. Just a few more weeks to go until baby boy is due.
Lately, I’ve been noticing how much more rest I need. Not in a dramatic way, just in small, but very clear signals from my body. And instead of pushing through, I’m trying to listen and slow down.
It’s gotten me thinking about how we all move through different seasons, and how our needs change depending on where we are. What feels doable or energizing at one point can feel like too much at another.
Here in Norway, winter is a pretty obvious reminder of that. Nature slows down. Things rest. There’s less movement, less light, less outward energy. And yet, we’re often still trying to operate at the same pace year-round.
A few weeks ago, I came across this quote that really resonated with me ⬇️
That question felt like a quiet shift for me. It challenges the idea that rest has to be earned, and instead frames it as something that supports clarity, presence, and well-being.
I wrote about this in a blog post long ago, but it feels worth repeating: rest isn’t a reward - it’s a biological need.
Just like food, water, and sleep, it’s something our bodymind depends on to function well.
So consider this a small invitation. To notice what season you’re in right now. To ask yourself what kind of rest you might need more of. And to see if there’s room to listen, even just a little.
